Time to look at what’s going on around the league.
Roger Goodell is dead, wait, no he isn’t
Some enterprising young fellow thought it would be a good idea to hack into the NFL’s Twitter account and have a little fun.
I can just see Tom Brady and Bill Belichick sitting in front of a computer in a dark basement, and chuckling to themselves, “Take that Roger..he he he.”
Manziel Continues his Delusional Tailspin
Johnny Football’s lawyer came out recently and stated that at this point Manziel is still planning on playing in the NFL this season. Yes, he actually said that. Evidently all of the drugs and booze have seriously affected Manziel’s grasp on reality. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a football team in the world that would associate itself with him at this point.
Other than the blatant partying, Manziel still faces assault charges after allegedly hitting his former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. He was also recently slapped with a lawsuit from a real estate broker, after he and his posse trashed a house in Los Angeles a couple of months ago. Manziel would be wise to get himself to the nearest rehab clinic and just disappear for about a year.
Aqib Talib might have pulled a Plaxico Burress
Juicy little details about the Denver cornerback’s shooting keep coming to light. Early last Sunday morning, Talib was involved in an altercation outside a Dallas strip club. He suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg, but apparently no long term damage was done. First of all, nothing good can happen outside a strip club at 3 am. Secondly, the whole matter was fishy from the beginning.
Talib has had previous run-ins with the law involving guns. There are also rumors that he is involved with gang activity in the Dallas area. This latest incident shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Anyhow, the authorities and the NFL are taking a closer look at what actually went down. A report came out earlier this week that Talib was actually telling friends that he may have shot himself.
“Everything was a blur, and I was too intoxicated to remember what happened,” Talib told Dallas police, according to WFAA-TV’s Rebecca Lopez.
So, while his teammates were hanging out at the White House, Talib was busy trying to figure out exactly how a bullet ended up in his leg.
J.J. Watt continues his Barnstorming Tour
Watt has had a very active offseason. He is now fully recovered from surgery to repair a torn groin muscle, and he is making the most of his time off. Watt was part of the Wade Phillips roast on Saturday. He then went on to play the bongos and drink a margarita with Jimmy Buffett in the Woodlands. As if that weren’t enough, Watt was then seen hanging out with Lil’ Wayne and 2 Chainz at the Houston Free Press Summerfest.

Watt then joined his teammates at mini-camp, and was a full go for the first time in practice since his injury. All he did on his first play back, was bat down a Brock Osweiler pass. He then took a quick trip to Nashville yesterday to co-host the CMT Awards with Erin Andrews. I didn’t watch any of it, but have heard some of the audio. The reviews are mixed, but let’s just say that it is a good that Watt knows how to play football really well.
Von Miller is Looking for some Serious Cabbage
Contract talks between the Broncos and their Super Bowl MVP linebacker have reportedly come to a screeching halt. Miller has apparently agreed to the overall value ($114.5 million) and the terms (6 yrs.), however, the structure of the contract and the guaranteed money seem to be the sticking point. The numbers would make Miller the highest-paid defensive player in the league, surpassing Ndamakong Suh. Denver had originally planned on ironing this out by the end of the day on Tuesday, but now both parties are stalling.
Miller is currently playing under the dreaded “franchise” tag, and is set to make a little over $14 million this season. I can’t imagine that they won’t get the deal done, but if not, Miller could very well sit out the 2016 campaign. It sounds far-fetched, but the egos on these guys are out of control. According to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, it is a distinct possibility. That would be an incredible turn of events for Denver’s best defensive player, and one of the best outside linebackers in the game.
Cam Newton will “Dab” no longer
To the delight of grumpy old curmudgeons everywhere, Cam Newton has announced that he will no longer utilize the “Dab” as a form of celebration.
Cam: The Dab has been put aside. New stuff coming that he is working on.
— Travis Hancock (@TBoneWFNZ) June 9, 2016
The good news is that Newton is working on something else which he will likely unveil in week 1. So, thankfully, we will still get to see Cam being Cam this coming season. Phew.
That’s all for now folks. Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or if you just want to say hi.
